Season's Greetings from Suffolk

At about midday today, fog and sunshine.

Wintery showers

That bank of cloud on the left is full of snow. There have been several snow showers today, but it hasn't stuck.

Rainbow

Weather forecast: sunny intervals.

December 8th

No rain today. Judging from the cloud patterns, there were strong winds at high altitudes, though it wasn't windy at ground level.

The first photo shows the edge of a sheet of stratocumulus stratiformis.

In the second photo, the setting sun is reflected on the underside of a sheet of altocumulus. At the bottom of the sky, you can see virga falling from stratocumulus - the hook-shaped trails underneath the cloud.

Mixed picture

After heavy rain last night, there was a lot of stratocumulus today - the edges of sheet of it seen here. Above it, scraps of white altocumulus floccus, whisked up by the wind. In the distance, over the coast, cumulus congestus.

Virga in November

At the end of a mostly overcast day, some blue sky at the edge of a layer of altostratus radiatus.

Hardly any rain for weeks, and a summery sky in October at Pin Mill, Suffolk.

From my window

I looked up from my keyboard and spotted this through my office window.

Cumulus clouds, seen through a layer of cumulus fractus, catch the sun.

Sunny Bank Holiday

Not many clouds today - they were almost all gone by the afternoon - but a few patches of cirrocumulus lacunosus earlier.

The sky blushed

I just missed a rainbow but I caught this instead - light reflected from the sunset.

Haven't posted anything for ages - I'm aiming to get back into the habit.

I like the way that a setting sun illuminates clouds from underneath.

Reflected light.

Reflected light at sunset

Sometimes you need to look in the opposite direction at sunset. The reflected light shines through my east-facing windows as though it's morning on days like this.

Fine February day

Saw my first bumblebee of the year today.

The bottom of a rainbow, and a few cumulus clouds below a persistent layer of stratocumulus, late afternoon on a rainy day.

Frosty Fog

Fog and a couple of days and night of hard frost decorate the trees. Fog is low level cloud.
