A warm grey day today.

Winter's here

It's been windy lately, stripping the last of the leaves off the trees. A farmer has been along this hedge with a machine that cut all the summer's growth of brush, so you can see through it. The sun shone for a bit, but it was mostly grey. Some rain, but not enough. They said on the news that we need a lot more.

Grey again

This was late afternoon. There were lots of dark clouds, a few patches of blue sky, and it was cold.

Stratus overhead. These cumulus (cumuli?) are about ten miles away, taken with the zoom lens.

I was just thinking it would be impossible to take an interesting photo of such a dull sky, when this happened...

Stratocumulus over Hadleigh (Suffolk) this afternoon. No different from here, except for the trees.

Cumuliform lumpiness

A description used by Cloudman John A Day to describe this sort of sky. This is looking east. I could see the bottom of some interesting cumulus in the distance, looking west, but this is all I had overhead most of the day.

Wet blanket

Stratus - a low, soggy layer that's so dull I had to put the teasel in the picture so you'd have something more interesting to look at.

It's a stay indoors and eat cake sort of day (not that I need an excuse), but I have to go out.
