Stormy day rainbow

Today's news is all about the high winds, tidal surge and coastal flooding. Soon after I took this, it got darker, blew harder, and started to rain.

Was woken just before 8am by beeping electrical equipment triggered by a power cut. This was taken through my window. You can just see a faint rainbow. Doesn't look like much, but it was blowing a gale.

The power cut lasted 54 hours.

There was a lot going on in the sky this afternoon, some of it colourful. In one direction (to the north east), a faint rainbow. In the opposite direction, a sundog.

You can just see the base of the rainbow near the house in the first picture, in the edge of some receding nimbostratus. The sundog wasn't very bright either.

The bottom of a rainbow, and a few cumulus clouds below a persistent layer of stratocumulus, late afternoon on a rainy day.

Some rain, some sunshine

It rained on and off, but was mild.

There was a mixture of cumulus and wisps of stratus fractus between showers.

To the coast and back

Drove to Clacton today. Saw some cumulus congestus on the way. The sea was flat with faint clouds in the distance. It rained on the way home. The rainbow was near Harwich. By evening, there was a light sandwich in the sky.
