New Year snow
The cumulus congestus was about 20-25 miles away, towards the coast. It grew into a distinctive elongated anvil shape later, when the light wasn't good enough to get a decent image.

December 8th
No rain today. Judging from the cloud patterns, there were strong winds at high altitudes, though it wasn't windy at ground level. The first photo shows the edge of a sheet of stratocumulus stratiformis.
In the second photo, the setting sun is reflected on the underside of a sheet of altocumulus. At the bottom of the sky, you can see virga falling from stratocumulus - the hook-shaped trails underneath the cloud.

Mixed picture
After heavy rain last night, there was a lot of stratocumulus today - the edges of sheet of it seen here. Above it, scraps of white altocumulus floccus, whisked up by the wind. In the distance, over the coast, cumulus congestus.
